Microneedling: What It Is, Who It’s For, and What to Expect?

Microneedling is a skin‑improving treatment in which fine micro‑needles create controlled micro‑channels in the skin. This stimulates the skin’s natural healing process and activates the production of collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin’s texture visibly improves in a natural and gradual way.

What is microneedling suitable for?

Microneedling is suitable for:

  • Fine lines and early wrinkles

  • Acne scars and superficial scars

  • Enlarged pores

  • Dull or tired-looking skin

  • Uneven skin texture

  • Mild pigmentation

  • General skin rejuvenation and glow

Suitable for almost all skin types and skin tones.

When is microneedling not suitable?

Microneedling should not be performed in cases of:

  • Active acne or skin infections

  • Open wounds or inflammation

  • Severe eczema or skin conditions in the treatment area

  • Recent use of isotretinoin

  • Pregnancy (depending on clinic policy)

Recovery after the treatment

Day 1: redness, warmth, sensitivity

Day 2: redness decreases, skin feels dry/tight

Day 3: mild flaking may occur

Day 4–7: skin becomes calmer, smoother and fresher

When will you see results?

  • First glow: 5 to 7 days

  • Visible skin improvement: 2 to 4 weeks

  • Collagen production: 6 to 12 weeks

The skin continues to improve in the weeks following the treatment.

Treatment course

For optimal results:

  • 3 to 4 treatments

  • Interval: every 4 to 5 weeks

Maintenance

After completing the treatment course:

  • 3 to 4 maintenance sessions per year

This keeps the skin in optimal condition long-term.

Treatments that support the skin after microneedling

HydraFacial (cleansing, hydration and glow)

  • Skinboosters

  • Chemical peels

  • RF microneedling

  • Vitamin and restorative treatments

Important Aftercare

1. Do not touch the skin

Avoid touching the treated area to prevent bacteria from entering the skin.

2. No makeup or skincare (24 hours)

Do not apply any products or makeup for the first 24 hours.

3. Avoid active ingredients (3 to 5 days)

No vitamin C, retinol, AHA or BHA. The skin is temporarily more sensitive and more permeable. Active ingredients can cause irritation or overload the skin barrier. Allow the skin to fully recover before reintroducing active products.

4. Cleansing

Use lukewarm water only for the first 24 hours.

5. Avoid heat and physical activity (24 hours)

No exercise, sauna, swimming or baths. Showering is allowed after 6 hours, but avoid using facial cleansers.

6. No sun exposure or tanning beds (24 hours)

Protect the skin from UV radiation.

7. Hydration

Drink plenty of water to support the healing process.

Extra Tips for Optimal Results

Proper aftercare and the right skincare routine make a significant difference in the outcome of your treatment. Always use gentle, restorative and barrier‑supporting products after microneedling.

During a consultation and skin analysis, I will help you choose the right products for your skin type and condition. This not only enhances the results of the treatment but also helps maintain them long-term.

Conclusion

Microneedling is an effective and natural treatment for skin improvement. The best results are achieved through a treatment course, followed by maintenance sessions and a consistent skincare routine. This keeps the skin smoother, fresher and healthier for a long time.
